Our Educational Diagnostician
Services Include:

Achievement Assessments

Achievement assessments measure a student’s proficiency in core academic areas, including:

  • Reading (decoding, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary use)
  • Writing (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and composition skills)
  • Mathematics (number sense, problem-solving, computation, and reasoning skills)

These assessments help educators determine grade-level proficiency, identify learning gaps, and develop intervention plans for struggling students. They are often used to:

  • Qualify students for special education services under an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Monitor progress for students receiving Response to Intervention (RTI) support
  • Provide insight into areas where accommodations, modifications, or alternative teaching strategies may be needed

Common achievement assessments include standardized tests, curriculum-based measurements, and diagnostic evaluations tailored to the student’s age and grade level.

Cognitive Testing

Cognitive testing assesses a student’s intellectual abilities and problem-solving skills, helping educators understand how a student processes and retains information.

These assessments evaluate areas such as:

  • Verbal reasoning and language comprehension
  • Non-verbal reasoning and spatial abilities
  • Working memory and attention span
  • Processing speed and executive functioning (planning, organization, impulse control)

Cognitive assessments are commonly used to:

  • Identify learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia)
  • Diagnose intellectual disabilities or giftedness
  • Understand how a student learns best and recommend individualized instructional strategies
  • Determine whether a student qualifies for special education services or enrichment programs

Examples of cognitive tests used in schools include the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V), Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities, and Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales.

Individualized Educational Planning

(IEP Support & Instructional Strategies)

Once assessments are completed, the results are used to create an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan for students who need specialized instruction, accommodations, or support services.

IEP development involves:

  • Setting measurable academic and functional goals
  • Identifying necessary accommodations (e.g., extra time on tests, preferential seating, assistive technology)
  • Recommending modifications to curriculum or teaching methods
  • Establishing progress monitoring and support services, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, or behavior interventions

Instructional strategies tailored to the student may include:

  • Multisensory learning approaches for students with reading difficulties
  • Chunking information into smaller steps for students with executive functioning challenges
  • Visual schedules and graphic organizers to improve comprehension and organization
  • Alternative communication methods for students with speech or language delays

IEP planning ensures that students receive personalized support to help them access the curriculum and achieve educational success.
